October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), and we’re participating in and planning events to highlight the crisis of domestic abuse in our community and the resources that exist to help and support survivors. We’re proud to be the largest provider of domestic violence services in the state, with the 65-bed Weaver Domestic Violence Center, 24-Hour Crisis & Support Helpline and Textline, and a state-of-the-art pet shelter for pets of survivors fleeing abuse.
Sign up for a new monthly recurring gift during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October 2022), and your monthly amount will be matched for the first THREE months by The Carolyn Smith Foundation. From October through December, your monthly gift will provide double the resources to help YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee serve domestic violence survivors fleeing abuse.
The form below is for monthly gifts only. To make a one-time gift, click here, or consider breaking your gift into 12 monthly gifts to take advantage of the match.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Purple represents survival, courage, peace, and dedication to ending violence. It is a salute to survivors and those we have lost to domestic violence.
Join us and the Nashville Coalition Against Domestic Violence for Meet Us At The Bridge on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 9 am as we remember those who lost their lives to domestic violence in the past year and those who work to end abuse. Click here for details.
Domestic violence is all about power and control. It does not discriminate based on age, gender, religion, or socio-economic background. Abuse can be emotional or physical or both. Learn the signs of Domestic Violence here.
Share our 24-Hour Crisis & Support Helpline with someone who may need assistance – CALL 800-334-4628 or TEXT 615-983-5170.
Wear Purple Thursday – October 20th – Learn more about this day here.
Week Without Violence is part of a global movement with YWCAs across the country and around the world to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence. Join us from October 17– 21, as share information and stories, advocate, and more with a common goal in mind: together, we can end gender-based violence.
Share our @ywcanashville social media posts on your social media account and use #DVAM and #EndDVNow.
To be the best advocate, you need to be your best self physically, mentally, and emotionally. Practice self-care to both rest and strengthen your mind and body. Go for a walk, spend time outdoors, read a book, do a DIY project, limit technological stimuli, meditate, journal, or spend time with a friend. See more about the importance of self-care here.
Challenge others to take time to care for themselves so we can all take better care of one another.
Other Ways to Participate:
Gift Matching
Does your employer have a matching gifts program? Consider a recurring or monthly donation to YWCA in observance of our Domestic Violence Services program and loop-in your employer so they can match your gift.
Create Your Own Fundraiser
Do you have a heart for philanthropy? Do you have a birthday in October? Consider creating your own personal fundraiser for DVAM. For assistance, reach out to Makinzi Greener, makinzi.greener@ywcanashville.com.
Paint a Pumpkin Purple
In spirit of the fall season, paint a pumpkin purple and display it on your porch as a symbol of awareness. This could be a great activity to do with your children and educate them on kindness and healthy relationships.
