YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee Receives $10,000 Grant from Animal Welfare Fund at Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee

Nashville, Tenn. June 11, 2026 — YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee has received a $10,000 Animal Welfare grant from Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to support Abbie’s Safe Home. The grant will help YWCA keep people and their pets together as they flee violent homes.

“Too often, survivors of domestic violence delay leaving dangerous situations because they have nowhere safe for their beloved pets to go,” said Sharon K. Roberson, President and CEO of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee. “Abbie’s Safe Home removes that heartbreaking barrier by allowing survivors to seek safety without leaving a member of their family behind. We are deeply grateful to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for investing in this lifesaving work and helping ensure that women, children, and pets can heal together in safety and dignity.”

Since opening the state-of-the-art pet shelter on the Weaver Domestic Violence Center campus nearly five years ago, YWCA has been able to provide more than 5,500 nights of safety to over 160 pets.  Animal Welfare grants support organizations working to ensure animals and wildlife receive the care and resources they need. Funding priorities include expanding access to free or low-cost spay and neuter services, helping families keep pets in their homes, supporting safe homes for pets awaiting adoption, promoting humane education, rescuing injured animals and supporting therapeutic services involving animals. ‍
