YWCA Announces 34th Academy for Women of Achievement Honorees
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 4, 2026) – YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee proudly announces the 34th class of its Academy for Women of Achievement (AWA), presented by Amazon. Seven extraordinary women and one leading organization will be honored for their remarkable contributions to the community during an awards celebration on Wednesday, October 21 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel.
This year’s Individual Honorees are:
Cathy Bender, First Vice President, Sr. Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management
Beth DeBauche, Commissioner (retired), Ohio Valley Conference
Cherae Farmer-Dixon, Dean, Meharry Dental School, Meharry Medical College
Tracey Henry, Community Volunteer
Edie Carell Johnson, Chair, VUMC Board of Directors; President, Legal Counsel Carell Family LLC
Dee Patel, Managing Director, The Hermitage Hotel
Tara Scarlett, President/CEO Scarlett Family Foundation
Dollar General Corporation will be honored as the 2026 Corporate Honoree.
This year’s event is co-chaired by Missy Eason (AWA Class of 2025), Valerie Smith Molette (YWCA Board Member), and Cameron Simmons (YWCA Board Member).
“Each year, the Academy for Women of Achievement shines a spotlight on individuals and organizations whose leadership transforms our community for the better,” said Sharon K. Roberson, President and CEO of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee. “This year's honorees have broken barriers, opened doors, and created opportunities for countless others through their vision, service, and dedication. We are proud to welcome these extraordinary leaders and Dollar General into the distinguished Academy for Women of Achievement family.”
The 2026 honorees join a distinguished group of 203 women and 35 organizations previously inducted into the AWA. They represent the best of Nashville’s business, healthcare, academic, athletic, hospitality, and philanthropic sectors. A committee of business and community leaders selected the honorees.
This year’s theme will be announced at a private gathering in September. Longtime AWA supporter, FINN Partners, is developing the theme for the event.
