Girls Inc. Summer Camp Empowers 85 Young Leaders with STEAM, Service, and Sisterhood
Miss Tennessee, Zoe Scheiderich, visits our Girls Inc. camp less than a month after she earned her crown. She will represent Tennessee at the Miss America competition in Orlando in September. Our campers were thrilled to meet her!
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - July 28, 2025 - This summer, 85 Girls Inc. campers ages 7 to 13-years old came together at Margaret Allen Middle School to explore what it means to be strong, smart, and bold! They took on hands-on STEAM challenges, completed community projects, and learned about a wide range of careers from inspiring guest speakers. Campers also built friendships, boosted their confidence, and discovered their leadership potential.
We were especially proud to welcome four Girls Inc. alumnae back to join our summer team as staff members. Their leadership and energy helped create an unforgettable experience for our girls. We also celebrated our oldest group of campers as they graduated from the program and got a sneak peek of what’s next with the launch of our new Counselors in Training program coming next summer!
We are deeply grateful to Cummins for funding camp and providing snack bags for every camper and to Dollar General for their generous gift card donation that helped us purchase supplies. Special thanks to all our incredible partners, volunteers, and Girls Inc. Advisory Council members who made this summer one to remember.
A few other highlights from the three-week camp included visits from YWCA’s sister programs - Dress for Success Nashville, AMEND Together, and Weaver Domestic Violence Services. The girls wrote caring cards for the women and children who are staying safe and healing at our emergency shelter. The campers were also visited by members of Metro Nashville Women’s Caucus of the Metro Nashville Council and Vice Mayor Angie Henderson. They learned what it’s like to have explore an issue that needs funding and discuss, compromise and vote on the issue that is most urgent to their community. Dr. Katherine Y. Brown came by camp to teach the girls a class on learning CPR. Our campers also received a visit from Empire Beauty School and Miss Tennessee!
We wrapped up the summer with inflatables and ice cream sundaes to celebrate all the learning, laughter, and bold action our girls brought to camp each day.
