Dress for Success Nashville is the local affiliate of the beloved, worldwide organization that helps women thrive in work and life. We transition women to financial independence by providing career apparel and career development tools. This suite of services supports their professional lives, so clients find and keep their jobs, build thriving careers, and prosper in the workplace. Dress for Success equips women with more than just the clothes they need to find a job. It gives them confidence to succeed. We offer every service free of charge, thanks to the generosity of our partners, supporters, and donors.

ABOUT DRESS FOR SUCCESS NASHVILLE

Established in 2014, our Dress for Success Nashville styling program provides clients with career apparel and accessories to prepare her for a job interview. After she secures employment, the client is invited back for an employment styling session which will provide her with additional wardrobe pieces to mix-and-match for a week’s worth of outfits. While we occasionally accept clients who self-refer, we prefer potential Dress for Success Nashville clients come to us via one of our approved referral partners.

GIFT CARDS

We welcome donations of gift cards ($25-$50) to Amazon or Walmart so our clients can purchase whatever we’re unable to provide to complete their wardrobe.  We also use Uber & Lyft gift cards to provide our clients who face transportation challenges with rides to and from their suitings.  Contact Lisa Hill via email to arrange to drop off your gift card donation, or mail them to Dress for Success Nashville at 1608 Woodmont Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215.

DONATION DRIVES

If your workplace or group would like to organize a donation drive to benefit Dress for Success, please follow these guidelines. Due to an overwhelming response from our community of individual clothing donors and our limited storage space, we kindly request our group donation drive efforts focus on these specific needs instead of clothing:

 Monetary donations, at any level, help us provide a complete suiting experience for the women we serve:  

    • $350 covers the full cost of an interview styling appointment for one client.

    • $100 helps to defray the cost of industry specific clothing we don’t normally carry in the boutique like steel toed boots, black nonskid shoes, scrubs, or custom fitted undergarments.

    • $50 provides a rideshare service so our clients can get to or from their Dress for Success styling appointment without navigating public transportation.

    • $25 buys a gift card to a discount clothing store for a client who needs to purchase one additional thing to complete her outfit.

  • Gift cards – in $25 increments to Walmart, Target, or Amazon.  We sometimes lack a specific size or color clothing item for a client, and in those circumstances it’s wonderful to be able to give her a gift card so she can purchase exactly the right thing to complete her outfit.  Gift cards greatly help our mission!

  • Gift cards to Uber or Lyft.  Our boutique is not on a bus line, and many of our clients face transportation challenges.  Making a rideshare service available to them for their styling appointment alleviates that problem. 

  • Scrubs – new or gently used, especially in size L, XL, XXL

  • Full-Size, Unopened Toiletries - Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, face wash, moisturizer, scented lotion, and perfume.

  • New or gently-used wardrobe accessories in pristine condition – women’s dress shoes (heels and flats), non-skid soled shoes, purses, and jewelry.

Please take a moment to complete this Third Party Event form before you start your donation drive event. We’ll then send you our logo to use in promoting your event.  Please send us your promotional proofs for approval before you make those public. 

When you’ve concluded your donation drive, please contact Dress for Success so we can help arrange for you to drop it off at YWCA’s administrative building at 1608 Woodmont Blvd. We have limited office hours, but we’ll work with you to make this as convenient as possible.

If your group members wish to make an appointment to donate from their wardrobe, please ask them to read below for information about individual clothing donations which require an appointment.

CLOTHING DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS

We welcome donations of new or gently used women’s career wear and accessories, by appointment only, according to the guidelines below.

We gratefully accept these items:

  • A limit of 25 new or pristine & clean clothing items - all on hangers and in season, donated by appointment only according to donation calendar below.

  • Suits, separates, & dresses appropriate for an interview or career wardrobe

  • Current fashion fashion styles for a modern career woman - nothing older than 3-years

  • Wardrobe accessories - flat or heeled dress shoes, purses, jewelry, scarves

  • Coats (donated in autumn or winter, only)

  • Scrubs (year-round) - especially in royal blue or charcoal gray

  • New, unopened, full-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, moisturizer, deodorant, scented body lotions or sprays, and mascara

  • New bras or foundation garments with tags

  • Industry-specific apparel such as non-skid soled shoes, khaki or black slacks, and denim in excellent condition

  • Walmart or Amazon gift cards in $25-$50 increments

  • Designer or high-end, specialty wardrobe items

    We’re unable to accept these items:

  • Donations without an appointment

  • Bags or boxes of clothing

  • Maternity clothing

  • Menswear, maternity wear, formal wear, children’s clothing, swimwear,

  • Outdated styles (nothing older than 3-years)

  • Items that are soiled, damaged, altered, or in need of repair

  • Previously worn undergarments

  • Cosmetics

  • Legacy donations

    Please donate according to this seasonal calendar:

    • January – February – Fall & Winter Items Only

    • March-June – Spring & Summer Items Only

    • July Large Sizes Only (sz.14 & up)

    • August – October – Fall & Winter Items Only

    • November – Large Sizes Only (sz.14 & up)

    All clothing must be brought in on hangers.  We’re unable to accept bags or boxes of clothing. Limit of 25 hanging items per donation.
