Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. at the YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee is a provisional member of Girls Inc. National.  The Girls Inc. research-based curriculum is specially developed for low income, minority girls, empowering every girl to be herself, to resist stereotypes, develop leadership skills and achieve her dreams.

Three Girls Inc. Identity programs are being offered to 5th and 6th grade girls in Dalewood and Ewing Park Metro Nashville Schools.  They are:

• Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy which bolsters girls’ communication skills as well as their motivation and educational resources for being in charge of their own sexual health and avoiding teen pregnancy.

• Friendly PEERsuasion builds girls’ skills for resisting peer pressure to use harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, household chemicals and other drugs.

• Project BOLD strengthens girls’ abilities to lead safer lives.  Girls develop strategies for self-defense (including physical techniques), for seeking out and talking with caring adults about personal violence and for advocating on violence issues for girls and young women.

Inspiring girls to be strong, smart & bold.

Youth Advantage

Youth Advantage provides free job preparation training for high school students seeking their first job.  Progressing through our interactive WorkSmarts curriculum, these teenagers learn appropriate workplace communication and behavior as well as networking, resume preparation and interviewing skills.
