Receptionist Volunteers Needed - Great Networking!
The administrative office on Woodmont needs volunteers to help answer phones and direct visitors. Morning and afternoon positions available.
**Great way to meet people and help a dynamic not-for-profit organization.
Adult Education:
Free GED preparation classes are offered at five sites around Nashville. Our class curriculum emphasizes literacy for life. Through it, we teach the life-changing knowledge and skills necessary for adults to reach their goals and be fully engaged - at work, at home and in their communities. We also help immigrants successfully adjust to our culture and community by providing English for Speakers of Other Languages classes (ESOL). We have an immediate need for a volunteer tutor on Thursday evenings from 6-8 P.M. at our Woodmont Blvd. class. Other volunteer opportunities available weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturday mornings include:
Classroom Assistant: Help Adult Basic Education instructors in the classroom as needed.
Tutor: One-on-one or small group assistance for adult students in basic math, social studies, science and English to build skills and/or prepare them for GED testing.
Youth Services Program:
Girls Inc.: The YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee is an affiliate of Girls Inc., offering girl-specific programming with a focus on leadership, pregnancy prevention, violence prevention and drug/alcohol prevention. Girls Inc. inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold through research based programs and advocacy that empower girls to reach their full potential and understand, value and assert their rights.
Volunteer Program Facilitator to facilitate or co-facilitate one or more of the following program subjects: media literacy, health and sexuality, leadership development, economic literacy and violence prevention. This will be primarily during the summer through our mini camps.
Skills: This position requires an ability to dynamically facilitate the subject matter listed above. Volunteers for these positions should be professional, creative, energetic, flexible and fun. The ability to think quickly on one’s feet is crucial, as is the ability to effectively communicate and direct young girls’ focus.
Training: All volunteers will participate in a training which will address the specified curriculum strategies for working with adolescent girls and the Girls Inc. mission and policies.
Volunteer Program Assistant to assist program instructors as they facilitate girls on one of the following subjects: media literacy, health and sexuality, leadership development, economic literacy and violence prevention.
Skills: Must be enthusiastic, have strong interest in one of the above subjects, enjoy working with children and be dependable and committed to our mission.
Training: No training required.
Youth Advantage: This is a program from the YWCA that provides job preparation training for high school students. Participants of the program attend after school workshops held over a period of 16 hours where they progress through our WorkSmarts training course. Currently there are no volunteer opportunities but we will list them as they become available so please check back.

Training is required and volunteers are requested to commit to 3 to 6 months of work depending on the activity. Volunteer opportunities include:

A minimum six-month and 12 hours per month volunteer commitment is requested.
Childcare: Help guide children’s playgroups in the Center or in a community setting during mothers’ support group meetings.
