“Burn the Mortgage…Build the Future” is completed. The campaign was a fundraising initiative aimed at raising enough money to pay off the YWCA Weaver Domestic Violence Center’s mortgage and pay for deferred and ongoing maintenance.
Our Weaver Domestic Violence Center is the largest shelter in Tennessee, and since its opening in 2000, it has provided a place to stay for over 3,000 women and children through more than 85,000 nights of safety. After 8 years, the YWCA still carried a mortgage that drained resources and limited the services we could provide.
Nicky Weaver and Sigourney Cheek led a fundraising effort to ensure that this community will always have a safe place and available emergency shelter for women and children who experience domestic violence. The campaign was grass roots, inviting the community of Nashville to step up and help the YWCA continue to change lives without the burden of debt.
