Stand Against Racism

The YWCA partnered with 70 YWCA Associations throughout the country to Stand Against Racism, with the goal of bringing people together from all walks of life to raise awareness that racism still exists. Approximately 200,000 people nationwide took a Stand Against Racism on April 30, 2010.
The YWCA of Nashville held a public event at 1608 Woodmont Boulevard on April 30th that included guest speakers, readings about promoting equality for all people and materials for attendees. Our local event drew U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper and a crowd of supporters. See photos. Over 3,000 people participated in Nashville in several ways.
Nashville area schools and businesses hosted Stand Against Racism events for their employees and students. We would like to thank the following who participated:
Pledge Against Racism
As an individual committed to social justice, I stand with the YWCA against racism and discrimination of any kind.
I pledge to challenge any expression of racism in my presence by my family, my friends,
my co-workers and those I encounter.
I will commit to a lifetime of promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all
people in my community and in the world.
