Elder Abuse Prevention Project

Elder Abuse Prevention Project

During 2007-2009, the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee partnered with FiftyForward, Sexual Assault Center, the District Attorney General, Metropolitan Police Department of Nashville, and Adult Protective Services to provide training to law enforcement personnel, members of the judiciary, prosecutors, and court staff on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of elder abuse.

Elder abuse is an older adult experiencing physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse or stalking, financial exploitation, or emotional abuse.  This comprehensive training has enabled law enforcement to develop skills to more effectively assess, investigate and prosecute cases of elder abuse in Nashville.

YWCA Vice President of Programs says Elder Abuse is widespread on News Channel 5.
"Seniors that are being abused, about 90 percent of those cases report that the abuse is imposed on the victim by a family member," said Pamela Sessions, YWCA Vice President of Programs.
